Angel Falls, known locally as Salto Angel, is located in Canaima National Park in the Guayana highlands, Bolivar State.
It’s height of 979 meters makes it the tallest waterfall in the whole world. It is so awe inspiring it is not so much seen as experienced.
Named after Jimmy Angel, an American aviator who was the first person to fly an airplane over it in 1933, Angel Falls was originally known as Kerepakupai merú by the indigenous people.
Visiting Angel Falls
Even though the Angel Falls is one of the most popular attractions in Venezuela, due to it’s location it is not an overly easy place to visit.
However, it is possible to visit by day tour, overnight tour or simply fly over the falls by helicopter or light aircraft, and it is definitely worth the effort.
It’s possible to visit Angel Falls by boat from Canaima when the waters are deep enough, and you will be guided by the indigenous Pemon.
Weather and season permitting, this method is highly recommended and in conjunction with a flight over the falls it is an unforgettable experience.
Some of the companies who can arrange a tour of Angel Falls for you are Soana Travel, Excursiones Kavac and Bernal Tours.
